Task team

If you have passion for people and enjoy seeing transformation in human beings, then S-Cape is the right place for you to get involved. The most important qualification for this role is a heart for people, decency, accountability, and teachability. National and international volunteers are welcome.

Responsibilities and commitment

We are looking for people who will be on standby and available to step in and assist the S-Cape staff with necessary tasks when needed. You are welcome to dedicate your spare time, and that would be minimum two hours per day/ per week; or one Saturday or Sunday morning per month. We value your time, feel free to check in with us and see where you may be of assistance.

The aim of this team is to give people the opportunity to support both the residents and S-Cape staff. Therefore, we welcome individuals and couples to join as it could be beneficial for the residents to witness healthy relationships. It is highly recommended, though not compulsory for an individual or a couple to do at least one activity (workshop, meal, outing) with the residents each week.

Training will be provided to people who are interested in joining the team. By signing up as a team member you will benefit in building relationships.

Requirements

  • Police clearance certificate
  • Driving licence is preferred
  • Over the age of 18 years.
  • Enthusiastic and able to take initiative.

Have a look at the types of tasks. Please feel free to let us know if you have something else you are passionate about doing if it’s not on the list. The list of tasks is as follows:

  • Covering a shift at the Safe House. 
  • Taking and assisting residents with their clinic visits or medical appointments.
  • Taking the residents on an outing.
  • Picking a resident up from the hospital.
  • Driving the residents to an off-campus workshop.
  • Assisting with rides to the Base worship. 
  • Cooking a meal with or for the residents and House Mother.
  • Take the residents to the shops or going for a walk with them.
  • Running a workshop with the residents. 
  • Providing support to S-Cape staff member.
  • Assist with maintenance or gardening around the house

Workshop Volunteer

Overall Responsibilities

Workshop volunteers will be delivering workshops and activities to engage women and increase their skills and knowledge of various activities. Through this holistic approach, workshop volunteers provide a stimulating and safe space to interact with our residents.

Activities may include, however not limited to, sports, drama, performing arts, art classes, hospitality, knitting, crocheting, bible studies, basic English, basic mathematics, reading, storytelling, life skills, cultural understanding lessons, educational fun, and gardening.

Requirements

  • Over the age of 18 years.
  • Have a police clearance.
  • Are passionate about helping woman.
  • Enthusiastic and able to take initiative.
  • Work unsupervised and remain in control of workshop
  • Basic understanding of different behaviour patterns
  • Basic understanding of mental health
  • Confident

Commitment

Depending on availability and the type of workshop. Minimum time: 3 – 6 weeks or 3 – 6months

Short/ Long term volunteers

Are you excited to make a difference in the fight to end Human Trafficking? Do you have a calling to work in the mission field or do you just want to give your time to make a difference in the lives of the survivors? Then this is the right place!

As an organisation we work with paid staff, short term, and long-term volunteers. At S-cape we take a very personalized, strengths-based approach to training our volunteers, and we value the unique qualities of each of our team members.  It is our goal that each volunteer becomes equipped to take on responsibilities that stretch and grow their personal strengths.

Overall Responsibilities

Each of these roles could be filled by a volunteer depending on the current need which may vary from time to time. S-Cape is also pioneering a children’s facility. With that in mind, these positions could become a new team for the safe house that we hope to open soon.

Roles that could be filled by a volunteer:

  • Project Manager
  • House operations Coordinator
  • Resident Care manager
  • Maintenance and OHS representative
  • Administrative assistance.

Social work internship

Are you currently studying Social Work, and do you need an 6m + abroad internship? S-Cape might be the place for you. We have been accommodating Social Work interns from overseas since 2018. It has been incredible to see how the role of an intern has become so integrated into our day-to-day work. So far, the interns have expressed that they love working in the S-Cape team and that they have learned so much from working with the woman and colleagues.

Unfortunately, because of the confidentiality laws, interns are not allowed to sttend therapeutic sessions with the residents. However, we are confident that the tasks you may do as an intern, will grow, and stretch you as a future Social Worker. You will gain new skills and experience that you can use in your profession as a Social Worker, and we will make sure you understand the role of the Social Worker in South Africa.

Overall Responsibilities

  • Two office/administration workdays
  • Community development presentation alongside the Social Worker. (If COVID regulations allow)
  • Assist with Social Work admin where needed.
  • Facilitating weekly life-skills workshops to empower the residents.
  • Covering some shifts at the safe house and assisting the House Mothers in their daily duties. Here you will work closely with the residents, and you will be co-responsible to ensure a clear daily routine is maintained and the house rules are upheld.
  • Safe house administration (example: First aid kit monthly check-up, file registers and logs, printing necessary forms, finances)
  • Join Social Auxiliary worker in Social Support group meeting. This work will assist closer alongside the Social Worker to assist her in supporting the residents reaching their life goals.
  • Assist with the Social Enterprise skills workshop ‘not I but we’ where needed.
  • Help with ‘operations’ related tasks such as the following: administrative tasks, accompany residents during medical visits, providing transport, outpatient programs, assist with home affairs visits, participate in team meetings, and do house related tasks i.e., grocery shopping, etc…
  • Assist in the development of new systems that can support the well running of the safe house. As we are still a growing organisation, new guidelines and protocol must be created frequently to ensure a stable and clear foundation on how to work with the residents.
